3D Tic-Tac-Toe is a classic game adaptation of the traditional Tic-Tac-Toe, expanded into a three-dimensional grid. The game was developed for early computer systems, including the Commodore PET, though specific details about the developer and publisher remain unknown. It is one of many early computer games that emerged during the late 1970s and early 1980s, a period when home computers were gaining popularity and simple yet innovative games were being created. The gameplay of 3D Tic-Tac-Toe involves a 4x4x4 grid, where players take turns placing their marks (typically X or O) to form a line of four in any direction horizontally, vertically, or diagonally across the three-dimensional space. This added complexity made the game more challenging and engaging compared to the traditional 2D version. The Commodore PET version was likely written in BASIC, a common programming language for early home computers.
