"Capture!" (also known as "Beast") is a game written by Malcolm Michael and published by CodeWorks - Cursor for the Commodore PET. It is a text-based adventure game, typical of the era, where players interact with the game world through typed commands. The game was part of a series of titles developed by CodeWorks - Cursor, which specialized in creating software for early personal computers like the Commodore PET.
The objective of "Capture!" involves navigating a maze-like environment, solving puzzles, and avoiding or confronting a creature referred to as the "Beast." The game emphasizes exploration and problem-solving, with players required to use logic and strategy to progress. Like many text adventures of the time, it relies heavily on descriptive text to immerse the player in its world.
Malcolm Michael and CodeWorks - Cursor were known for their contributions to the early computer gaming scene, particularly for the Commodore PET. While specific details about "Capture!" are scarce, it is recognized as a representative example of the text-based adventure genre from the late 1970s to early 1980s. The game is part of the broader history of early computer gaming, reflecting the limitations and creativity of developers working with minimal graphical capabilities.
