"Boswain" is a text-based adventure game written by Chris T. Nadovich and published by CodeWorks - Cursor for the Commodore PET. The game was part of a series of text adventures created by Nadovich during the late 1970s and early 1980s, a period when text-based games were popular due to the limited graphical capabilities of early personal computers like the Commodore PET. CodeWorks - Cursor was known for producing software for the PET, including educational programs and games.
The gameplay of "Boswain" likely followed the conventions of text adventures of the era, where players interacted with the game by typing commands to explore environments, solve puzzles, and progress through a narrative. The title "Boswain" suggests a nautical or maritime theme, possibly involving a ship or seafaring adventure, which was a common setting for early text-based games. However, specific details about the plot, mechanics, or unique features of "Boswain" are not well-documented in available historical records.
Chris T. Nadovich was a prolific programmer for the Commodore PET, and his work with CodeWorks - Cursor contributed to the library of software available for the platform. While "Boswain" is not as widely remembered as some other text adventures of the time, it represents a piece of early computing history, showcasing the creativity and technical constraints of game development in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Further details about the game remain scarce, and it is primarily of interest to retro computing enthusiasts and historians.
