"Mail" is a text-based adventure game written by Roby Hyde and published by CodeWorks - Cursor for the Commodore PET. The game was released in the early 1980s, during the heyday of text-based adventures, and was designed to run on the Commodore PET's 8-bit computer system. Like many games of its era, "Mail" relied on typed commands to navigate and interact with the game world, offering players a narrative-driven experience.
The premise of "Mail" revolves around a postal-themed adventure, where players likely took on the role of a mail carrier or someone involved in delivering messages. The game's mechanics would have involved solving puzzles, exploring environments, and managing inventory items to progress through the story. While specific details about the plot or gameplay are scarce, it is consistent with the style of text adventures popular at the time, emphasizing exploration and problem-solving.
CodeWorks - Cursor was known for producing software for the Commodore PET, and Roby Hyde was one of their contributors. The company focused on creating accessible and engaging games for the platform, often targeting hobbyists and early computer enthusiasts. "Mail" is one of the lesser-known titles from this era, and while it may not have achieved widespread recognition, it represents a niche but important part of early computer gaming history.
