The game *Poker* by David Hook, published by CodeWorks - Cursor, is a lesser-known title from the early days of personal computing, specifically designed for the Commodore PET. CodeWorks - Cursor was a small software publisher active in the late 1970s and early 1980s, focusing on games and utilities for the Commodore PET, a popular computer at the time. David Hook was one of the developers associated with this publisher, and *Poker* was one of the games he created.
*Poker* is a digital adaptation of the classic card game, designed to run on the Commodore PET's limited hardware. The game likely featured basic text-based graphics, as was common for PET games during that era, and allowed players to engage in a simplified version of poker. Given the constraints of the PET's hardware, the game would have been relatively straightforward, focusing on gameplay mechanics rather than advanced visuals or sound.
Unfortunately, specific details about the gameplay, release date, or reception of *Poker* are scarce, as documentation and surviving copies of the game are rare. The game is part of a niche category of early computer games that catered to the small but growing community of Commodore PET users. While it may not have achieved widespread recognition, it represents an important piece of gaming history, showcasing the creativity of developers like David Hook during the formative years of personal computing.
